The "Ponte degli Scalzi" was built during the same period of the Ponte dell'Accademia around 1858, by the engineer Austrian Alfred Neville, after a couple of years found the same problems.
The material originally used was the iron, the height did not exceed 4 meters so the transition was not allowed to hoist boats. Also the strictly industrial style did not leave Venetians happy, which rightly challenged the contrast with the picturesque architecture of the island.
To detect malfunctions in the bridge due to the material chosen by Neville, the Venetian municipality was forced around the years 30? to replace it with a single-arch bridge built of stone from Istria, a design of the engineer Eugenio Miozzi.
The bridge was inaugurated on October 28, 1932 two years after the start of construction.
